Guy Delisle and the Art of Graphic Storytelling

Why We Recommend it

Part of Francophonie 2025, a major exhibition at Hong Kong Central Library celebrates the works of world-renowned graphic novelist Guy Delisle this March.

Description

As part of Francophonie 2026, world-renowned graphic novelist Guy Delisle is one of the two guests of honour this year alongside award-winning writer Elisa Shua Dusapin. Delisle’s works will be held at a major exhibition at the The Hong Kong Central Library throughout March. Presented in English, traditional Chinese and French, the show explores Delisle’s singular approach to visual storytelling, tracing his journey from animation to global acclaim through original plates, sketches and excerpts from his best-known books.

Running concurrently from 3 to 17 March, a complementary exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre’s Comic Corner focuses on Delisle’s latest release, Muybridge (2024), which blends historical research and visual artistry to striking effect. Together, the two shows offer visitors an in-depth look at Delisle’s creative process and evolving themes.

Born in Quebec City, Canada, Delisle developed a passion for comics through the Franco-Belgian classics before spending a decade in animation, notably in China — an experience that inspired his breakthrough work Shenzhen. He went on to publish acclaimed travel diaries including Pyongyang, Burmese Chronicles and  Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City. His works, translated into 13 languages, including traditional Chinese, continue to shape the landscape of contemporary comics.
