Tour: Béthanie and Pokfulam Farm

Why We Recommend it
Part of French May 2026, a guided tour with Leung Hau-yeung explores French connections at Béthanie and Pokfulam Farm.
Description
Presented as part of French May 2026, a guided tour given by Leung Hau-yeung delves into Béthanie and Pokfulam Farm, two sites that reveal layered chapters of Hong Kong’s French connection. Built in 1875 by the Paris Foreign Missions as a sanatorium, Béthanie is noted for its French-style chapel and museum, which sheds light on missionary activity and cultural exchange. Nearby, Pokfulam Farm stands on the former Dairy Farm grounds, where traces of Hong Kong’s agricultural and industrial past meet adaptive reuse — including the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts campus and restored staff quarters now open to the public.
Leung is a former editor at Bayard Presse Hong Kong, where he focused on children’s publications. Since retiring, he has become an active volunteer docent with institutions including the Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and Xiqu Centre. He also regularly leads group and heritage tours to local sites of interest, sharing and popularising Hong Kong’s history with a wider audience.
From 1 May to 30 June, tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays. Cantonese sessions run from 10:30 to 12:30, and English sessions from 14:00 to 16:00. To reserve, contact Leung via email.
