Aboard Hong Kong’s Railway Heritage Exhibition

Why We Recommend it
Until the end of 2025, explore Station Rail Voyage at Hung Hom Station, with exhibits and decommissioned trains celebrating the combined heritage of the MTR and KCR.
Description
Until the end of 2025, the Station Rail Voyage exhibition at Hung Hom Station offers an immersive journey through over a century of Hong Kong’s railway history, celebrating both the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and the former Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) systems. Since the KCR opened in 1910, Hong Kong’s rail network has evolved dramatically, not only shaping the city’s growth and connectivity but also becoming an essential life companion for many people. The MTR launched later in 1979, and in 2007, it merged with the KCR Corporation to form a unified system serving all 18 districts.
Through three engaging zones, witness the evolution of Hong Kong’s rail development. Decoding Rail unveils an array of signal lights and train components, including the Rado clock which was installed at stations in the early days of the Mass Transit Railway service, while Years on the Rail showcases stories and artefacts collected by railway staff over decades. The third and highlight zone features two retired trains – namely the legendary first-generation electric train Yellow Head, the East Rail Line’s Mid-life Refurbishment train (MLR) and the Diesel Electric Locomotive No. 56 I.B. Trevor.
